Let's identify some popular categories of lighting, show some example units and the effect they achieve:
Colour Wash
Moving Heads "Movers"
Spots
Eye candy lighting
Lasers
Festoon
Fresnels
Here's a popular colour wash lighting fixture. This is the Chauvet LTBT. Also known as a T Bar, Par Bar, Party Bar and simply "wash". This light offers colour mix, & sound activated glow to your dancefloor and / or whole room if required. In the context of a wedding for example, we would recommend that you have the light set up to a static colour to best fit your colour scheme for the earlier part of the night. And then when the dancing begins, with one button press, have the light respond to the tempo of the music. EASY TO SET UP. LIGHTWEIGHT. AFFORDABLE
As an example, (picture to the left) products like the Chauvet LTBT party light (described above), can create a glowing look. See the way that the dance floor is well light, even with the house lights off?
Also on display in this photo is a DJ booth screen and truss, (which are optional extras).
We advise you think about two mode which you can run your colour wash in. Firstly "static colour" for the earlier part of your event, for example a wedding, where you can match the colour to your colour scheme. And then later when the dance floor gets switched on, you can press a button to change to "sound active". Then, these fixtures become beat intelligent, and respond to the tempo of the music playing.
Here's the Chauvet Spot 360. It's the larger sister of the Spot 110. With a choice of cool gobo patterns and a 100w LED, the Spot 360 is a much larger light than the 110, with considerable greater output and pattern choice.
The Chauvet Spot 110 is the smallest moving head. It's the compact and budget conscious alternative to the larger Spot 360. Still able to add eye candy to your DJ or private party event, this light is a popular dry hire option for small venues and parties at home.
On top of the "colour wash" you'll likely want to hire lights which show moving patterns. These could be gobos, or simply a clean, sharp, pin point spot of light. We set some of our party lights for hire up in a small local venue to show some of the eye candy options.
Collectively known as "atmosphere", smoke, and perhaps in a more modern context, "Haze"
This is what makes lights pop. Here's how you get the most for your money in terms of the lights you've hired. With an atmosphere machine, the beams of lights cut through, and you can see their reach across the space. You'd always be best hiring a Haze machine, except from that you need to check with your venue it's okay to run with their fire alarm system.
